Week of February 9-13

Monday, February 9:
  • Warm-Up
  • Quiz:  Ch. 5-8
  • Ch. 1-7 "Who, Wants, But, So" activity.  In your groups, complete the chart by filling in the missing characters, character motivations, and plot elements.  We will use this for discussion of the chapters.
  • HW:  Read Ch. 10-11 by Wednesday
  • Fiction this week!
Tuesday, February 10:
  • Warm-Up
  • Ch. 8 Group Drawing - due at the end of the hour
    • Re-read the descriptions of Akueke (p. 60-61) and Okonkwo (p. 54)
    • Write down complete sentences from the passage that your group believes to be important as a basis for illustration
    • Illustrate the passage
    • Only use color when indicated in the passage
    • Repeat the same steps for the second passage
  • Verb quiz on Friday
Wednesday, February 11:
  • Warm-Up
  • Ch. 9-10 Confusion Questions
    • In your groups, come up with possible explanations for the three difficult questions on your handout.  We will discuss possible answers for these confusing situations in Ch. 9 and 10.
  • HW:  Read Ch. 12 by tomorrow
  • HW:  Ch. 11-12 questions due tomorrow
Thursday, February 12:
  • Things Fall Apart Part I Group Body Paragraph
    • Many changes happened in Okonkwo’s village and the surrounding areas.  You, as young members of the village, want to institute yet another change.  Your assignment is to think of a change you would make in the daily life/customs of the village.  Write a 2 chunk body paragraph to the egwugwu to persuade them to approve of your idea.  Due at the end of the hour.
Friday, February 13:
  • Quiz: Verbs
  • Fiction Friday #2:
    • Read your choice book.  Continue to do so even after you finish your reading log.  
    • Complete your reading log: write one summary paragraph, one analytic paragraph, and one personal reaction paragraph.  Follow the directions on the handout given to you.  This is due at the end of the hour.
  • HW:  Read Ch. 13-14 by Monday, February 23 (the day we come back from break)
  • HW:  Complete the Ch. 13-14 Writing Prompt (due on Monday, February 23)
