Week of September 15-19

Monday, September 15:
  • Warm-Up
  • Discuss Fiction Friday guidelines
    • Choose a fiction book to bring to class by Friday.  You will read your fiction book and write a reading log during the hour.  The log will include a summary, analysis, and personal reaction to your choice book.  The reading log will be due at the end of the hour for 20 points.
    • Fiction Friday will occur every other Friday and will last during the entire class period.
  • Activity:  Noun or Verb?
    • Use each of the words on the handout as both nouns and verbs.  Write one sentence using the word as a noun and another sentence using the word as a verb.  We discuss the answers immediately after finishing the activity.
  • Finish and turn in "Noah and the Flood" questions
  • Discuss "Noah and the Flood"
  • HW:  Bring fiction book to class by Friday!
Tuesday, September 16:
  • Warm-Up
  • Parts of Speech Practice 2 - complete the activity in groups.  We will go over the answers as a class.
  • Begin reading "Popul Vuh" aloud in groups, with students taking turns reading aloud (p. 76).  After a few paragraphs, we will discuss our findings as a whole class before reading as a whole class (and continuing the cycle of discussion.
Wednesday, September 17:
  • Warm-Up
  • Finish reading "Popul Vuh" (p. 76) in groups and discussing the reading
Thursday, September 18:
  • No warm-up - substitute teacher
  • Complete the Parts of Speech review in groups.  Some of the questions are tricky!  We will go over and discuss on Monday.
  • Complete the chart for "Popul Vuh" on p. 86.  Due at the end of the hour.
Friday, September 19:
  • Fiction Friday #1:
    • Read your choice book.  Continue to do so even after you finish your reading log.  
    • Complete your reading log: write one summary paragraph, one analytic paragraph, and one personal reaction paragraph.  Follow the directions on the handout given to you.  This is due at the end of the hour.
